The Quality-of-Life and Trading Signals Update — 8/2/2026

Developer message:

After about 10 months without an official update, I finally found the motivation and time to continue working on WTU (sorry lol). I blame the delay on my lack of interest in actually trading on Webkinz, since using the site myself was often where the motivation and inspiration for new features came from.

This update was difficult to name because it isn’t centered around one major feature. It’s mostly a collection of whatever I felt like improving, without drastically changing how WTU itself works.

Many of WTU’s features were originally built to do what felt like the bare minimum, without enough time spent making them genuinely pleasant to use. With this update, I revisited those areas and addressed as many of their shortcomings as I could. I hope WTU now feels more connected, polished, and intuitive throughout.

As for the next update, I’m not exactly sure what it will include, but I expect it will focus on improving the item database WTU maintains. I know there are issues with duplicate items, missing items such as Zums and Hamsters, item details failing to load, and item images not appearing. Fixing these problems wasn’t strictly necessary to accomplish what I originally set out to do with WTU but I think it’s time I gave them some overdue attention regardless.

I hope you enjoy this year’s update (lol) and that WTU continues to improve your Webkinz Classic trading experience. I tried my best to test everything, but I imagine some bugs still slipped through the cracks. I always appreciate receiving feedback by email, so feel free to let me know what you think or if you notice any bugs I missed!

Trading Signals Spot items of interest via matching and ranking signals across traders, lists, and individual items.

There are four kinds of trading signals

  • Items you want — items from another trader's trade list that appear on your wish lists.
  • Items you have — items from another trader's wish list that appear on your trade lists.
  • Highly desired — items with a top-500 Wish Score.
  • Highly available — items with a top-2,500 Trade Score.

Where the signals appear

  • Trading lists show relevant signals in their metadata: trade lists can show items you want and highly desired items, while wish lists can show items you have and highly available items.
  • Trader profile pages show counts for all relevant signals: items you have, items you want, highly desired items, and highly available items.
  • Matching and ranking badges also appear on item cards and in item details, with options to show them throughout lists, rankings, and comparisons.

See what's behind each signal

  • Hover a signal on desktop or tap it on mobile to preview the items contributing to it.
  • Each signal links to a relevant next step, such as a filtered list, comparison, or ranking view.

Reddit Login No Longer Supported / Passwords Are Now Required

Developer message:

Without warning, Reddit started banning a subset of WTU users' Reddit accounts who log in to WTU using their Reddit credentials. At the time of writing this, I am unsure of the exact reason Reddit decided these accounts were abusive and deserved to be banned. WTU has allowed logging in with Reddit for over 8 months and this just suddenly showed up during a very busy time in my life.

If you were affected by these (in my opinion) wrongful bans, I'm sorry. I'm pretty upset with the whole situation and how I can't get any answers from Reddit myself. My own Reddit was affected by this and I'm currently in the process of appealing the ban but I'm currently off the app and it will likely remain that way.

Regardless of not knowing the full situation, I made the decision to not put any more users at risk and move to a more traditional account setup with a username and password. There may be a future where Reddit integrations return as I had some pretty cool ideas involving the Reddit API but that work has now paused.

Feature changes and updates:

    • Added ability to log in to your existing WTU account via a password, register for a new WTU account, and change your current WTU account's password.
    • Removed Reddit connections and references throughout the site.
The Item Rankings and Statistics Update

Developer message:

We've recently reached 1,000 total registered users! Seeing and hearing about how useful WTU is for many traders makes me very happy to contribute to the trading community. I cherish my fond memories of trading on Webkinz and it's awesome to be able to give back. I look forward to continuing to serve current and future traders through WTU!

This update is all about item rankings and statistics. Now that WTU has a significant number of traders, we can compile valuable data on item availability and desirability. This information, combined with other relevant details like first and last available dates, item origin, and/or community opinions, can help you evaluate an item's value and make more informed trading decisions.

Feature changes and updates:

  • Item Rankings and Statistics Related Changes
    • Added the "Item Rankings" page. This page shows an item's various rankings on WTU, which can be used to help evaluate the item's value based on its availability (Trade Score), desirability (Wish Score), and desirability-to-availability ratio (W/T Ratio) on WTU.
    • You can now view an item's rankings and stats directly in the item information dialog (the one that appears when you click on an item).
    • Added the ability to sort items within a list section by their Trade Score rank, Wish Score rank, and W/T Ratio rank.
    • When viewing a trading list, you can now see the rankings and stats of the items within that list by clicking "View Item Rankings" in the right sidebar.
  • User Interface & Navigation Enhancements
    • Changed existing item selectors to use a new dialog which will allow for better item selection options and filters (coming soon).
    • You can now view which trade lists and wish lists an item appears on directly within the item information dialog.
    • Added the ability to view all selected items and remove them individually from the right sidebar.
    • Added pagination on pages and dialogs that may contain many lists or items.
    • The filters on the "Browse Lists" page are now located in the right sidebar, no longer requiring a button click to reveal them.
    • Made numerous small cosmetic improvements to various user input components.
  • Performance Updates
    • Optimized image and content loading on trading lists by deferring section expansion until just before a user scrolls to them.
    • Changed update frequency of the lists displayed in "Browse Lists" page from 1 minute to 5 minutes.
  • Misc Changes
    • Implemented a confirmation dialog before redirecting users to Reddit for login, aiming to reduce confusion for new users about the redirection.
    • The "Features" page has been removed. I can't imagine anyone looked at this and it was a nightmare to keep up-to-date.
Misc Improvements

Feature changes and updates:

  • Trading List Management & Creation
    • Created a new dialog that appears when creating a new list to prompt you to select which trading list type your new list is.
    • Made it so miscellaneous lists only get a warning when their list name looks like it doesn't match its intended use as a miscellaneous list.
    • Changed the select list dialog to no longer have a select button on each list. Now you select a list then click the select button at the bottom.
    • Added a warning to list type dialogs to inform users that lists that do not follow the list type definitions can be moved to a misc list by the admin at any time without notice.
  • Navigation & URL Structure
    • Changed trading list URLs from "/itemlist" to "/list".
    • Changed compare lists URL from "/comparelists" to "/compare".
  • Performance Updates
    • Improved loading times for "Browse Lists" page. This page now checks for new trading list changes every minute.
  • Misc Changes
    • Added the Webkinz Guide pages the item appears on to the item information dialog.
Improved List Selectors

Feature changes and updates:

  • Improved List Selectors
    • Added a new dialog for better list selection options and filters.

Previously you would have to scroll through all lists. This change affects the "Compare Lists" page and the "Browse Lists" page in the advanced filters section.

  • Misc Changes
    • Improved list loading in "Browse Lists" page.
    • Added loading progress for trading lists section on "User Profile" page.
Website Discovered! / Browse Lists Page Enhancements & Other Small Stuff

Developer message:

Well, it's getting serious now. From less than 10 total users registered in 2024 (website became invite-only in July and public in November), we've grown to over 100 just this month! WTU finally broke out and is being put to use, and I couldn't be happier.

I've intentionally avoided making any public announcements about the website as I wasn't sure it could handle a significant increase in users, and of course, it couldn't. Some users may have noticed some interruptions the week of 1/19 as I had to change webserver technologies to accommodate the new influx of concurrent users. There are still likely to be some growing pains as the website continues to grow in active users, so please continue to bear with me and the website's uptime in the future.

Feature changes and updates:

  • Browse Lists Page Enhancements
    • Added ability to filter lists to only include lists that contain at least one item from a selected list.

This is extremely useful, and absolutely worth checking out as I expect it to change how you trade. For example, by selecting your wish list in the dropdown list, you can see all active lists that contain items you are looking for. This is a lot like the existing "Compare Lists" page, but it searches all lists instead of just one.

    • Added ability to filter lists based on how many days ago the list was last updated.

This is by default set to 30 days, as lists older than 30 days are not considered active on the site.

    • Added ability to filter lists by removing displayed lists, essentially hiding a list temporarily from the set of lists you are Browse.
  • User Profile Enhancements
    • Added ability to view a user's public trading lists (wish/trade) on their profile.

When you are viewing your own profile, you can also see your Miscellaneous lists as well.

  • List Type Default, Definitions, Warnings, and Errors

Many users seem to be forgetting to change their trading list types to match what their list is supposed to be used for. This was understandable as the default trading list type was "Trade" and if you're using the website on mobile you may not see the "List Type" select box. Many existing and future website features rely on list types being accurate so I have added list definitions, warnings, and errors to help guide users to select the correct list type for how they are using their list.

I also made the default list type be "Miscellaneous" so users' new lists will by default not be publicly discoverable. However, you will now receive a warning message whenever your list is set to 'Miscellaneous'; since for the majority of users, they likely need to change it to a different type. This may be annoying to users who truly mean for their list to be miscellaneous but I believe this message will be useful for the majority of users.
